Well I properly welcome you then, welcome to this forum, and feel free to post as much as yoiu want.

Maybe you could open a topic to tell us what brings you to become a mangaka ,what kind of manga you'll do and under what conditions you'll work?

Hey there. I came across this forum after looking around for info on Kanou Yasuhiro. I've been staring at my PC screen whole day trying to find any news on MxO, or on a possible sequel, but all I could find online were people speculating about whether MxO would continue or not.

Then just when I'm about to give up, what do I find? To my amazement I come across Hidenara Saikaku, a mangaka who just might me close enough to Kanou-sama to nudge him in the right direction. I'm lost for words.

Anyway, my name's Grant. I'm a 2nd year engineering student (university), living in Cape Town, South Africa. I haven't read that many manga, but thus far my favourites are (surprise surprise) Ichigo 100% and MxO. I've recently bought the Dragon Ball manga (Vol1 VizBig Edition), since I found the DB anime (not DBz) a little corny, but I haven't begun reading it yet. My favourite anime are Fate Stay Night, Skip Beat, Great Teacher Onizuka and Naruto.

Oh, and I'm liking the forum look. It's really refreshing. My university's anime society, Genshiken.UCT's online discussion forum uses the same forum engine. Really great stuff. Here's a link to our forum. (Sorry if I'm not allowed to post links to other forums, but I just thought you guys might find it interesting to see other anime/manga forums with the same engine.

Also, you guys are scanlators, right? Would it be possible for me to join your group? (Well, not now anyway. I'm just curious as to how you guys recruit new members. I mean, I live overseas. How would we correspond? Via email/forum?)

First, welcome here, even though it's pretty quiet nowdays, feel free to post as much as you want (I'm not asking you to spam!)

About Mx0, I'm afraid there's really not much hope, even if a starting mangaka was meeting him and asking him to continue.

And about joining us, if you have the skills why not? (but not a lot of people have skills enough to work with me, cause I'm an ass) I'm not releasing anything lately cause I'm the only one doing something for Ossu! right now but that doesn't mean I'm doing nothing!  Tongue

Mm, then I guess it will be a while before I join. I stopped learning Japanese last year, but I'm planning on starting again. I haven't learnt kanji yet, so I guess I'm pretty useless at the moment. I'm not exactly sure what all's involved in scanlating, but if there's anything simple (but time consuming) that you need help with, then just ask. Maybe if I get involved with a scanlation group, then it would encourage me to learn Japanese faster.

Say, how do you choose what to translate? Do you simply read random raws and translate the ones you like?

random is the best!! :3
Yeah, what I pick is really based on the feeling I have when discovering it.

you were proposing to join as translator? I thought you were asking to be editor or something (like most of the other people asking to join...)
About not knowing many kanji, don't let that drag you down, I'm using a dictionary for kanjis when translating, I don't know a lot of kanji either...

Well, I'm not really ready to join just yet. Actually my japanese is pretty pathetic at the moment. I just wanted to know about the procedure when applying for a position. Maybe in June I join, but before that I first wanna try reading through some raws.

Well, the problem is that our last editor, eats, is now overbusy with his job and has gone though personal trouble too, which means he can't help anytime soon with editing... which also means I'm back to being the one man team again -_-

So unless you have better japanese skills and can replace me, a new translator wouldn't be really useful Undecided

At least now I know a little more about how scanlation groups work. But the way I see it, it'll be about a year before I'm good enough to translate manga. For now I'll just play around with drawing hiragana whenever I get a chance.
